MUSEUM AS RITUAL

In this collaboration, Maria Ferro, Julia Iunes, and I joined our interests in curatorial practices, audiovisual mediums and immersive installations to create a space that reminds the audience of how the museum experience is only meaningful via the active engagement of the viewer. We wanted to challenge the conventions of an exhibition by using mechanisms that force the viewer to be active and present in the space for the whole of the visit. In a metalinguistic approach that criticises the behaviour within the museum space, we propose to remind the viewer/participant that the museum experience is more than a fleeting act or a place of escapism, making them aware of their participation through the way they interact with the space.
